This project means a lot to me. In January 2020, right before the pandemic, I was approached by Submarine (NL) to do the on-set VFX supervision of this film. The on-set experience was amazing; seeing Richard Linklater direct and getting to know Tommy Palotta (head of animation) made me want to stay on board until the film was finished two years later.
After the shoot I stayed on as VFX Supervisor and later I became the Compositing Supervisor, which put me at the start and end of the pipeline, working directly with the director, the head of animation, the art director Vincent Bisschop and many others. Together we developed a unique look, and a pipeline to achieve that look, in over 1800 shots.
